The Futuro Media Group seeks a Development Assistant who will help the Development team fundraise. The Development Assistant is responsible for day-to-day coordination of fundraising operations, including correspondence, calendars, files, cultivation and stewardship of individual donors, foundation grants and more. This is a full-time position that reports to the Institutional Giving Director, and supports also the Major Gifts Officer.

Based in Harlem and founded in 2010 by award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa, the Futuro is committed to creating multimedia content for and about the new American mainstream in the service of empowering people to navigate the complexities of an increasingly diverse and connected world.

The Futuro Media Group produces Latino USA, NPR’s only national Latino news and cultural weekly radio program; America By The Numbers with Maria Hinojosa, a documentary series on PBS revealing the human stories behind America’s dramatic demographic changes; In The Thick, a political podcast from the perspective of journalists of color; and Humanizing America, a digital-shorts web series distributed by that presents intimate profiles of diverse Americans. The Futuro Media Group also produces live, civic engagement events in conjunction with content aired on our various media properties that promote community dialogues on race, culture, and ethnicity.



  • Responsible for gift processing and acknowledgement processes
  • Responsible for keeping donor database updated and ensuring accuracy of the database.
  • Responsible for running reports in the donor database to use as a research and analytical tool
  • Assist Development Officers in managing donor portfolios, tracking outreach, meetings, program updates, grant reporting requirements, donor gift projections and follow-up
  • Conduct research on new and prospective donors
  • Draft donor correspondence including annual solicitations, acknowledgements, proposals and emails as well as talking points, for two Development Officers
  • General office management for Development team, including file management, scheduling, and preparing Development expense reports
  • Edit/proof of correspondence, reports and spreadsheets
  • Assist in the logistical support of high-level meetings and special events involving donors and board members
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of Development interns, as needed
  • Maintain a unified social media and internet presence for the Futuro Media Group, including updating FMG website and Facebook and Twitter feeds


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an administrative function
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for nonprofit management and fundraising, interest in business development and management
  • Nonprofit organization experience preferred
  • Understanding of current trends in public, commercial, and digital media
  • Strong familiarity with Mac OSX and Google Suites
  • CRM database experience preferred (Salesforce)
  • Research experience preferred
  • Email marketing software experience preferred (Mailchimp)
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, in both usage and trends
  • Knowledge of Spanish language a plus
  • Sense of humor
