And that’s because even though he’s free, he’s on parole for a lifetime. In other words, he’s just serving his prison sentence on the outside. Sometimes all these rules make Suave ask himself, “Will I ever really be free?”

You can listen to Episode 1, “Roses and Manure.” In this clip, host @jujuxwrites describes the moment Suave steps out of prison and is hit by two scents: roses and manure.
“Roses and Manure” captures a moment from Season 1 when Suave leaves prison for the first time in decades. On his way to a resentencing hearing, he breathes in the scent of roses —the most beautiful thing he’s smelled in years— only for it to be replaced moments later by the sharp scent of manure. It’s this type of contrast that shapes Suave’s life—everything looks great on the outside, but deep down something else is going on.
